Making sense of the anti-choice movement – National Social Issues | Examiner.com

Women’s rights issues are not some spandrel of religious nuttery; rather, they are a critical component in the machine. Republicans know that women who can’t afford contraception will likely get pregnant. They know that the majority of women who have abortions only have one. And they know that they have it young, often to avoid parenthood until they are better educated and financially capable. They know that many young men “do the right thing” and drop out of high school or college to marry and care for their child. They know that these unwanted children are more likely to end up in privatized jails than children of older, more stable parents. They know all this, and they like the sound of it. And that is why we must redouble our efforts to expose them, depose them, and end this era of government by the rich for the rich.
